Introduction
Getting Started
What Insider Magazin does, how to open the workspace, how to import your own CSV/TSV file in EuroInsider, and a first walkthrough from selecting a dataset to exporting a report.
What Insider Magazin is
Insider Magazin is an analytics workspace for historical, time-stamped datasets. It describes distributions, computes frequencies, compares periods and groups, and exports structured reports. Every result is a descriptive statistic of the data you have selected.
Scope
Insider Magazin does not forecast, predict outcomes or give investment, betting or financial advice. Patterns found in past data describe that data only; they do not determine future events.
All statistics are computed in your browser from the loaded observations. Dates are treated as UTC calendar days, and quantiles use linear interpolation (Hyndman & Fan type 7). See Statistical Analysis for the exact definitions.
Open the workspace
The public demo is available at /demo. No sign-in is required. EuroInsider buyers open the same workspace at /app through their personal access link (see Account & Access); it adds the import of your own files. Both load the three illustrative datasets: synthetic series generated from documented formulas with a fixed seed, covering 2023-01-01 to 2025-12-31. They are labelled “Illustrative Dataset — For Demonstration Purposes” wherever they appear.
| Dataset | ID | Unit | Categories | Value kind |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Regional Electricity Demand | energy-demand | MWh | North, South | Continuous, 1 decimal |
| Support Response Times | support-response | min | Email, Chat, Phone | Continuous, 1 decimal |
| Items per Order | order-items | items | Web, Store, Mobile | Discrete (integers) |
The generating formulas are documented in Platform Overview.
A first walkthrough
The following steps touch every part of the workspace.
- Choose a dataset. Use the dataset selector in the top bar.
- Set the date range. Pick a preset (Last 90 days, Last 6 months, Last 12 months, Year to date, All data) or enter custom from/to dates. Presets are counted back from the latest observation in the dataset, not from today's date, so a historical dataset always returns data.
- Filter categories. Select one or more categories (for example the North region). With no category selected, all categories are included.
- Read the Overview. Check the indicators: Total observations, Dataset coverage, Mean, Standard deviation, Unique values and Last updated. Change the time-series aggregation from day to week, month or quarter and add a moving average.
- Inspect the shape of the data. Open Frequency Analysis to see the histogram and the frequency table, then Distributions for the summary table and box plots per category.
- Look at time structure. Historical Trends shows the year-over-year monthly profile, the weekday × month heatmap and the lag-1 scatter plot.
- Compare. In Comparisons, compare two periods (A vs B) or two categories and read the mean difference, relative change and Cohen's d.
- Check individual records. The Data Explorer lists every observation in the selection, with sorting, search and pagination.
- Export. In Reports, choose the sections to include, download the CSV files or print the report to PDF.
Filters apply everywhere
The dataset, date range, category filter and search in the top bar define one selection. Every panel, indicator and export is computed from that selection. If a number looks unexpected, check the active filters first.
Importing your own data
In EuroInsider (/app) you can import your own CSV or TSV file. The file is read and validated in your browser; it is never uploaded to or stored by Insider Magazin. File import is not available in the public demo.
- Select Import data in the top bar.
- Select Choose a file and pick a
.csv,.tsvor.txtfile of up to 25 MB. The separator (comma, semicolon, tab or vertical bar) is detected from the first line. - Tick or untick First row contains column names, depending on whether your file has a header row.
- Map the columns: Date column, Value column and, optionally, Group column (for example region or channel). Columns named like date or value are preselected; check the choice.
- Check the Date format: YYYY-MM-DD, DD/MM/YYYY or MM/DD/YYYY. The format is suggested from the first rows of the file. Hyphens, slashes and dots are accepted as date separators, and a time after the date is ignored.
- Enter a Dataset name (the file name is suggested) and, optionally, a Unit, for example €, kg or min.
- Review the summary: the number of valid rows, the number of rejected rows and the date range. The first rejected rows are listed with their line number and the reason.
- Select Add dataset. The dataset is added to the dataset selector and opened with its full date range.
Rules for the file
- Up to 25 MB per file and 200,000 data rows; rows beyond 200,000 are not imported, and an entry in the rejected-row list says so.
- Each row needs a valid date and a number. Rows with an invalid date (for example 31 February) or a value that is not a number are rejected and listed; they are never guessed or corrected.
- Numbers may use a decimal point or a decimal comma (
12.5or12,5), with or without thousands separators (1,234.5or1.234,5). - Without a group column, all rows are placed in one group, “All”. Rows with an empty group cell are placed in “Unassigned”.
- Whether values are treated as continuous or discrete, and the number of decimals shown, are derived from the imported values.
Re-import in each session
Imported data is kept only in the open page, so import the file again after you reload or close the page or switch to another device. With the optional Saved Workspace add-on, imported datasets are kept in your browser on this device instead. All analysis sections, reports and exports work on imported data in the same way as on the illustrative datasets.
Other ways to use your own data
Organisations can have their data connected through a server-side API adapter instead. Your organisation provides an HTTPS API that returns datasets in the documented JSON format; the Insider Magazin team configures the connection during onboarding. Responses are validated before they reach the workspace, and API credentials stay on the server. The contract is described in Platform Overview.
Not available yet
Excel (.xlsx) import, database connectors and scheduled refresh are planned and not available today. To use an Excel sheet, save it as CSV and import it.
EuroInsider is bought online through Digistore24; organisation access is provisioned after a signed order form. See Account & Access and Billing & Support.
